Carlstad Crusaders re-sign Scottish lineman Matthew Daltrey for 2026

The reigning Swedish Superserien champion Carlstad Crusaders have secured a key piece of their dominant offensive line, re-signing Scottish offensive lineman Matthew Daltrey for the 2026 season. The 29-year-old center was a vital part of the team’s success during their 2025 championship run, providing stability and experience in the trenches.

A proven winner in Europe
The 6’1”, 280-pound Daltrey from Culbokie, Scotland, is no stranger to success. Before joining the Crusaders, he spent three seasons with the Vienna Vikings in the European League of Football (ELF), where he anchored an offensive line that led the league in yardage in 2024. His tenure in Vienna was highlighted by an ELF championship title in 2022, cementing his reputation as a top-tier lineman on the continent. Prior to that, he found success in the Finnish Maple League with the Helsinki Roosters, winning a title in 2019.

Head coach Christian Forsman expressed his enthusiasm about the re-signing:

“It’s really great to have Matthew back for another year, and we get the opportunity to build on what we created in 2025. He’s a genuine character and important for the group with both his leadership and his ability to lift others. Practices and games simply become more fun when he’s around!”

Continuity for the champions
By bringing back Daltrey, the Crusaders maintain crucial continuity on their offensive line as they aim for a third consecutive Superserien title. His journey from learning the game at the University of Leicester to becoming a seasoned veteran in Europe’s top leagues brings invaluable experience and leadership to Carlstad. This re-signing signals the club’s intent to remain the team to beat in Swedish American football.
