Championship quarterbacks ready for showdown in Swedish final
When the Stockholm Mean Machines and Tyresö Royal Crowns meet in the Swedish Superserien championship game, the spotlight will naturally fall on two of the league’s premier quarterbacks. Stockholm’s Dawson Herl and Trevor Vasey of the Royal Crowns have guided their teams to Sola Arena with outstanding seasons, setting up one of the most intriguing individual matchups of the weekend.
Both arrive on the heels of memorable semifinal performances, with Herl leading Stockholm to a dramatic 27-24 comeback victory over the Örebro Black Knights, while Vasey threw four touchdown passes as Tyresö stunned defending champion Carlstad Crusaders 28-22 on the road.
Numbers tell the story
Herl has put together a remarkable season for the Mean Machines, completing 158 of 257 passes for 2,279 yards and 30 touchdowns without throwing a single interception. His 129.2 quarterback rating reflects both his efficiency and ability to make big plays, while his mobility has added another dimension with 149 rushing yards and three touchdowns on the ground.
Vasey has been just as important to the resurgence of the Royal Crowns. The veteran completed 155 of 222 passes for 1,937 yards and 23 touchdowns while posting an outstanding 69.8 percent completion rate. His ability to consistently move the chains and distribute the football has been a major reason Tyresö has returned to the championship game for a second straight year.
Experience versus efficiency
Vasey enters the final with an impressive résumé. The former Örebro Black Knights quarterback led Örebro to the Swedish championship in 2021 while earning league MVP honors, and his experience extends beyond Sweden with successful stops in Germany and Finland.
Herl, meanwhile, has quickly established himself as one of the league’s most dangerous quarterbacks. After an injury cut short his 2025 season, he returned to lead one of the Superserien’s most productive offenses, combining explosive downfield passing with excellent decision-making.
Saturday’s final features two quarterbacks capable of taking over a game. Herl brings unmatched ball security and explosive production, while Vasey counters with championship experience and pinpoint accuracy. After both orchestrated semifinal upsets to send their teams to Karlstad, their head-to-head battle could ultimately determine who lifts the Swedish championship trophy.
