Kragujevac Wild Boars win championship rematch in Serbia

The reigning Serbian champion Kragujevac Wild Boars overcame their first true test of the 2017 season Saturday coming from behind to beat arch rivals and 2016 title game opponents SBB Vukovi Belgrade 21-14 in Kragujevac in heavy rain.

The Wild Boars were paced by running back  Laurent Tshimanga who scored two touchdowns while quarterback Ian McGinnis scored the other. Petar Goić kicked all three extra points for Kragujevac.

Vukovi running back Mihailo Josović scored the first touchdown for Belgrade while quarterback Luis Kindle tossed a 65 yard touchdown pass to Duane Brady for the other.

The terrible conditions kept the passing game to a minimum on this day.

Kragujevac took an early 7-0 lead on McGinnis’ 14 yard touchdown run but Vukovi tied it up on Josović’s score. Then Vukovi moved ahead 14-7 when Brady scored and the Wild Boars trailed 14-7 at the break.

Neither team could mount much offense in the third quarter although the Wild Boars drove down to the Vukovi five yard line but still came away empty handed.

Then Tshimanga went to work in the fourth quarter scoring both of his touchdowns with the winner coming late in the game. The win gives Kragujevac a 2-0 record while Vukovi drops to 1-1.

Sunday April 9, the Indija Indians will face the Novi Sad Dukes, the Sombor Celtis host the Beograd Blue Dragons and the Sirmium Legionaries and Pancevo Panthers will clash.
