Düsseldorf Panther crush Allgäu Comets 54-0 to stay in German Football League playoff hunt

The Düsseldorf Panther (5-6) kept their German Football League playoff hopes alive with a dominant 54-0 road win over the Allgäu Comets (1-10), jumping out to a 23-point first-quarter lead and never looking back.

Panther explode out of the gate

Düsseldorf established control immediately, marching 71 yards before Gennadiy Adams punched the ball in from the one. The defense quickly added two more points with a safety, and Dawson Herl then found James Okike for a one-yard touchdown to stretch the lead to 16-0.

Herl wasn’t finished. He went deep to Eritros Haggi for a 62-yard touchdown, sending the Panther into the second quarter with a 23-0 advantage.

The big plays kept coming. Herl connected with Florian Ferizi for a 58-yard score before finding Haggi again, this time for a 40-yard touchdown. Düsseldorf carried a commanding 37-0 lead into halftime.

Düsseldorf keeps rolling

The Panther continued to pile on after the break. Adams broke into the end zone from 16 yards out for his second rushing touchdown, and Thomas Rockel later finished an 80-yard drive by powering across from two yards.

Herl’s afternoon was about as efficient as it gets. He completed all 12 of his passes for 270 yards and four touchdowns, averaging 22.5 yards per completion.

Haggi did most of the damage downfield, turning just three catches into 155 yards and two touchdowns. Ferizi’s lone reception went for a 58-yard score, while Adams added 44 yards and two touchdowns on seven carries.

Defense slams the door

While the offense kept producing explosive plays, the Düsseldorf defense gave the Comets nowhere to go.

Gabe Quigley completed 11 of 25 passes for just 47 yards and was intercepted twice. He did find room on the ground, rushing for 89 yards on 17 carries, but Allgäu never managed to turn those yards into points.

The Panther defense completed the shutout while the offense added a 46-yard field goal in the fourth quarter to finish off the 54-0 rout.

The victory was Düsseldorf’s second straight following its win over the Berlin Rebels, keeping the Panther firmly in the postseason race with one regular-season game remaining.
