ELF: Leipzig Kings sign All-Europe defender Jan-Phillip Bombek

The Leipzig Kings of the European League of Football make a splash signing agreeing to terms with pass-rusher Jan Philip Bombek. Kings head coach Fred Armstrong is thrilled to have the skilled edge rusher on his side this season.

“I love his competitive attitude and the swag he plays with and after our private talks, I know Kings fans are going to embrace him. He is a wrecking machine on defense and I’m glad he is a King”.

This past season the 6’4 260-pound defensive end returned to his hometown of Hamburg suiting up for the Sea Devils. The former division one pass rusher started off the season on a tear, notching 11 sacks in seven games before an injury ended his season prematurely. The 25-year old also added 37 tackles and 17 tackles for a loss. He was named to the All-Europe team by AFI for his dominating performance in 2021.

After the season he was invited to the NFL International combine in London but was not selected for the International Pathway Player Program.

Now, Bombek turns his attention to helping the Kings franchise become a contender in the ELF:

“To all Kings fans, we will need even more of your support this year, bring your friends and families to the stadium to have the chance to be a part of something potentially very big.”

Jan-Phillip Bombek, who holds Austrian citizenship, played for the Austrian national team in his youth. He then went on the play junior college football at Feather River College in California, before earning a scholarship to Colorado State (NCAA D1). During his two years with the Rams he put up 44 tackles and seven sacks in 22 games played.

Last year’s most feared pass rusher now joins a Leipzig defense filled with talented players. Fellow new comers include American linebackers AJ Wentland and Myke Tavarres both proven impact defenders. In the secondary, ELF All-Star Roedion Henrique and his teammates should benefit from potentially the league best pass rusher this season.
