Finland’s Helsinki Roosters sign standout WR Micky Kyei

The Helsinki Roosters, winners of 22 Finnish titles, including eight straight from 2012 to 2019, have signed one of Europe’s premier receivers, Micky Kyei from Finland.

Kyei spent the COVID-19 shortened season in Finland helping the Helsinki Wolverines reach the Maple Bowl after catching 11 passes for 66 yards but rushing for 370 yards and five touchdowns on the season. He also had two interceptions including a key pick in the semifinal win over the Wasa Royals.

Kyei, 5’8″, 185 lbs, a native of Porvoo, Finland, starred with the Porvoon Butchers until 2016 when he signed with the Dresden Monarchs in the German Football League. Over his two seasons in Dresden he helped the team reach the German semifinals (2016) and quarterfinals (2017) while amassing a total of 1,466 yards receiving and 20 touchdowns. He spent the 2018 season with the Tampere Saints in Finland (40 rec. 608 yds, 6 TDs) and then helped the Braunschweig New Yorker Lions win the 2019 German Bowl. On the season, he hauled in 23 passes for 423 yards but led all receivers in the championship final.

Roosters head coach Juha Hakala:

“Micky is a great athlete that has lots of experience. He proved last season that he can make big play as receiver and also as running back. Glad to have him on our roster.”
