Firenze Guelfi dominate Belgrade Blue Dragons in CEFL Quarterfinals

In a game that felt more like a showcase than a Central European Football League quarterfinal battle, the Firenze Guelfi unleashed their offensive might against the Belgrade Blue Dragons, cruising to a 55-7 victory. The Guelfi turned the field into their playground, scoring at will and leaving the Blue Dragons scrambling for answers.

With this commanding win, Firenze advances to the semifinals, where they will face the Thonon Black Panthers on June 6.

Blue Dragons strike first

Still, it was the Blue Dragons who came out swinging, taking an early lead with an impressive drive that culminated in a touchdown pass from quarterback Michael Cornwell to Elijah Smoot, making it 7-0. However, the Guelfi quickly responded, with quarterback Andrea Fimiani connecting with Eystin Salum for a long gain. Despite a fumble by running back Cosimo Casati, the Guelfi managed to regain momentum.

As the second quarter opened, the tide turned dramatically. Firenze’s offense found its rhythm, and Fimiani launched a deep pass to Salum, who sprinted into the end zone to tie the game at 7-7. Then, on the next possession, the Blue Dragons struggled to convert a fourth down on their own 36-yard line, allowing the Guelfi to capitalize. Fimiani connected with Giacomo Mibelli for another touchdown, putting Firenze ahead 13-7.

Guelfi take control

The Guelfi’s defense stepped up, with Andrea Costanzi intercepting a Cornwell pass. Fimiani then led a drive that ended with him scoring on a quarterback sneak, followed by a successful two-point conversion to Cosimo Camilli, extending the lead to 21-7.

After the break, Firenze continued to dominate. Fimiani tossed a spectacular 53-yard touchdown pass to Salum, who broke multiple tackles on his way to the end zone, making it 28-7. A high kick on the ensuing kickoff bounced perfectly into the hands of Christian Sottura, setting up another touchdown pass from Fimiani to Frank Stola, pushing the score to 35-7.

Final quarter of dominance

The Blue Dragons attempted to mount a comeback, but their hopes were dashed when Matias Zampieri intercepted a pass in the end zone. The Guelfi capitalized on a breakdown in the Blue Dragons‘ secondary, allowing Fimiani to find Karim Diop for another touchdown, extending the lead to 42-7.

With time running out in the third quarter, Salum, now replacing Fimiani at quarterback, connected with Camilli for a long-distance touchdown, making it 48-7. A failed punt attempt by the Blue Dragons gave the Guelfi excellent field position again, and Casati finished the scoring with a touchdown run, sealing the game at 55-7.

With this impressive victory, the Firenze Guelfi advance to face the Thonon Black Panthers in the semifinals.
