Five Impactful CFL 2026 Free Agent Signings
CFL free agency opened on February 10, 2026, at noon ET, sparking a flurry of signings across all nine teams. While some stars like quarterback Cody Fajardo extended early, others hit the open market, leading to impactful moves on offence, defence, and special teams. For fans into sports betting in British Columbia, these signings shifted futures odds markets early.
Let’s take a look at the five most impactful free agent signings so far:
Wynton McManis (Hamilton Tiger-Cats)
McManis will be making the quick trip down the QEW highway to join the Tiger-Cats after a handful of seasons with the Toronto Argonauts.
The two-time All-CFL linebacker is a huge addition for the Tiger-Cats, who lost blossoming young linebacker Devin Veresuk to an NFL opportunity this offseason.
McManis, who also had NFL stints with the San Francisco 49ers, New Orleans Saints, and Miami Dolphins, recorded 62 tackles, four sacks, one forced fumble, and a pair of interceptions in 13 games for Toronto last season.
One of the best defensive players in the CFL, McManis gives Hamilton some real star power in the middle of its defence, which the team hasn’t had since beloved linebacker Simoni Lawrence retired.
Tre Ford (Hamilton Tiger-Cats)
Prior to the McManis signing, Hamilton solidified its depth at the quarterback position by signing Canadian Tre Ford to a two-year deal.
A true dual-threat quarterback, Ford hails from nearby Niagara Falls, so it’s a relative homecoming for the 27-year-old pivot.
Veteran quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell is still producing at an elite level for Hamilton, but he has an extensive history of injuries. He’ll be 36 before he hits the field this season, so adding the speedy Ford as a depth option seems like a shrewd move from the front office as an insurance policy.
Ford, who has scrambled for 1,129 rushing yards over 60 career CFL games, will also be highly useful in short-yardage situations.
Austin Mack (Edmonton Elks)
The Elks have been one of the busiest teams early in CFL free agency, and the addition of receiver Austin Mack on a two-year deal should work out quite well.
Mack spent the last three seasons with the Montreal Alouettes, recording 136 catches for 1,973 yards and six touchdowns across 32 games.
He became available after Montreal elected to release him in order to avoid paying out a $45,000 (CAD) bonus as part of a four-year deal he signed with the Alouettes in 2024.
The addition will reunite Mack with quarterback Cody Fajardo, forming a dangerous offensive duo that previously lifted Montreal to Grey Cup glory in 2023.
Malik Carney (Edmonton Elks)
In addition to signing Mack to upgrade the offence, the Elks also made a huge addition on the other side of the ball, signing defensive lineman Malik Carney.
The deal reportedly made Carney the league’s highest-paid American defensive player with $540,000 (CAD) in hard money over the next two seasons.
Carney helped lead the Saskatchewan Roughriders to a Grey Cup title in 2025 by notching a career-high eight sacks while making 39 tackles across 18 regular-season games.
A five-year CFL veteran, Carney should help elevate the Elks from a fifth-place finish in the West Division with a 7-11 record last season.
Tim White (Winnipeg Blue Bombers)
One of the top receivers in the league over the last few seasons, White elected to join the Blue Bombers on a one-year deal after being released by Hamilton.
White, a four-time 1,000-yard receiver in the CFL, hauled in 1,016 receiving yards and seven touchdowns with Hamilton last year as a secondary receiver behind Kenny Lawler.
The move will reunite White with Tommy Condell, who was hired as the new offensive coordinator in Winnipeg in December. Condell coached White in Hamilton from 2021 to 2023.
White should thrive catching passes from Zach Collaros, a two-time CFL Most Outstanding Player, in Winnipeg.
