Holland: Utrecht Dominators edge Giants in overtime thriller

The Utrecht Dominators (2-1) pulled off a dramatic 22–21 overtime victory against the Groningen Giants (1-2) in a back-and-forth Dutch Eredivisie showdown that came down to a gutsy two-point conversion stop.

Fast start sets the tone
Utrecht struck immediately with a 68-yard touchdown pass on their opening drive, setting the stage for a back-and-forth battle. The Giants responded in kind with a deep completion of their own, eventually punching in a short rushing score to keep the game tight early on.

Deep shots and lead changes
Just before halftime, the Dominators retook the lead with another deep connection—this time a 28-yard touchdown—followed by a successful trick play on the extra point to go up 15–7. But Groningen answered again as receiver Keyon Jacobs turned a deep catch into a spectacular 50-yard touchdown, weaving through defenders to keep his team in the fight.

Overtime drama
After both teams traded touchdowns in overtime, Utrecht led 22–21. Groningen’s extra point was blocked, but a penalty gave them one more shot from the 2-yard line. Opting to go for two and the win, the Giants were stonewalled at the goal line by the Dominators’ defense, sealing a hard-fought, character-building road victory for Utrecht.
