Italy: Parma Panthers edge Ferrara Aquile in hard-fought battle

In a tightly contested Italian Football League matchup, the Parma Panthers (4-1) defeated the Ferrara Aquile (2-4) 21-12 at Mike Wyatt Field. This victory marked another narrow win for the Panthers, who showcased their ability to capitalize on key moments throughout the game.

Defensive struggle in the first half
The first half was a defensive showdown, with neither team able to score in the first quarter. The Panthers broke the deadlock in the second period when quarterback Roman Fuller connected with Matteo Ghelfi for a touchdown, although the extra point was missed. Ferrara responded with a defensive play of their own: Zach Wright intercepted Fuller, leading to a touchdown by Alessio Guerrato, which tied the game at 6-6 after a failed conversion attempt. Just before halftime, Fuller and Ghelfi struck again, this time with a two-point conversion from Jaylin Parnell, giving Parma a 14-6 lead.

Aquile fight back but fall short
The Aquile came out strong in the third quarter, narrowing the gap with a touchdown pass from Ryan Kraft to Matteo Medini. However, Ferrara couldn’t complete the comeback, missing a two-point conversion and a subsequent field goal attempt. As the fourth quarter unfolded, the Panthers extended their lead with Ghelfi’s third touchdown reception, converted successfully on the kick, making it 21-12.

Missed opportunities haunt Ferrara
Despite a solid defensive effort, the Aquile struggled offensively, leaving seven points on the field due to missed conversions and field goals. With four consecutive losses, Ferrara now faces a critical juncture in their season, needing at least one win to secure a playoff spot. The Panthers, on the other hand, continue to build momentum as they aim for a strong postseason run.
