The Czech league title holders, the Prague Lions, will face the winners of the Hungarian Football League, the Fehervar Enthroners, this Saturday, July 23 in the championship game of the 2022 Central European Football League Cup tournament in Fehérvár, Hungary.

To reach the final, the Enthroners downed Serbia’s Kragujevac Wild Boars 34-12 while the Lions defeated Czech league rivals, the Vysočina Gladiators 35-19. Prague then beat the Tychy Falcons from Poland in a close contest, 28-20.

Both teams are coming off highly successful domestic campaigns.

The Prague Lions swept through the Czech League of American Football without losing a game, downing the Gladiators 35-29 in the final. They were the highest scoring team in the league, averaging almost 50 points a game. Quarterback Shazzon Mumphrey was the fourth leading passer in the Czech Republic throwing for 1,346 yards and 22 touchdowns. Meanwhile, running back Adam Žouželka was by far the best rusher logging 995 yards, averaging 9.4 yards a carry while scoring 15 touchdowns. Lukáš Kadlec led all Lions receivers with 25 catches for 466 yards and eight scores.

Both will test the Enthroners defensive secondary today.

Defensively, Prague is anchored by their leading tackler linebacker Ondřej Kubík who had 28 total tackles and a sack. Defensive back Daniel Feuereisel chipped in with 27 tackles including five tackles for loss and a sack along with a pair of interceptions.

Fehervar had no trouble winning the Hungarian Football League title, besting the Budapest Wolves in the final. The team also played in the Austrian first division and finished the regular season undefeated with a whopping 352 points for and just 38 against in eight games. They are scheduled to play in the title game on July 30.

The Enthroners are led by Canadian quarterback Chris Merchant who topped the HFL throwing for 1,556 yards and 18 touchdowns while rushing for another 148 and three scores on the ground. With the Enthroners leading receiver, Rashad Still, unable to play, Merchant’s main targets today will be Nandi Toth who had 25 catches for 292 yards and four touchdowns and Will Vancompernolle who hauled in 19 passes for 238 yards and four scores. The ground game relies on running back Erik Madaras who rushed for 239 yards while also catching 15 passes for 152 yards and nine scores.

Fehervar’s defense relies on two key stoppers, defensive lineman Jebrai Regan who had seven sacks, three forced fumbles and 12 tackles for loss and linebacker Janos Zilai who recorded 50 total tackles.
