TORONTO — East Division rivals collide when the Montreal Alouettes visit the Toronto Argonauts at BMO Field to begin the final week of the regular season on Friday night.
Montreal is looking to bounce back from a 16-12 loss to the Saskatchewan Roughriders in Week 20.
Toronto lost to Ottawa, 40-39.
The Alouettes won the only other meeting this season, 37-30, back in Week 2.
Here’s three keys to victory for both teams ahead of Friday’s 7:00 p.m. ET kickoff, which can be watched on TSN and RDS2 in Canada, and on CFL+ in the U.S. and internationally.

MONTREAL ALOUETTES
1. STEVIE SCOTT III’S TURN TO PUT ON A SHOW
Montreal has been trying to fill the void left by running back Travis Theis since he was injured in Week 14. Against the Riders, it was Shomari Lawrence who stepped up with 109 yards on 16 carries. Now, it’s Stevie Scott III’s turn. He’s put up 350 yards on the season but has yet to see the Argos’ defence.
2. DEFENSIVE DISCIPLINE
The Alouettes have taken 65 penalties on the defensive side of the ball, the second most of any team, and are averaging 8.1 total penalties per game. Staying disciplined will go a long way in letting their overall talent take over.
3. CONTROL THE PLAY
Toronto enters Friday with a league-low average time of possession of 27:42. Quarterback Dustin Crum and the Montreal offence can take advantage by sustaining drives, controlling the tempo and keeping the Argonauts’ offence on the sidelines.
TORONTO ARGONAUTS
1. TUCKER HORN
Quarterback Tucker Horn will see his first game action this season. He completed eight of 13 pass attempts for 53 yards last season and will rely on the Argos’ experienced receiving corps to move downfield.
2. KEVIN MITAL JOINING THE 1,000-YARD CLUB
With 19 receiving yards, Kevin Mital would give Toronto four 1,000-yard receivers in the same season for the first time in franchise history. He enjoyed playing the Alouettes the first time, pulling down seven catches for 109 yards.
3. A TEST FOR THE DEFENSIVE FRONT
No team protects their quarterback better than the Alouettes, having allowed only 15 sacks on the season. The Toronto defensive front, led this week by defensive linemen Jonathan Kongbo and Paris Shand, leads the league with 42 sacks. If they can find success at the line of scrimmage, it will put them in a strong position to come out on top.
NEED TO KNOW:
- Montreal can tie the 2004 Alouettes with a 14-4 season – the second-best in team history behind 2009’s 15-3 showing.
- Dustin Crum is 0-4 against Toronto. His next touchdown will be the 50th (17 pass, 32 rush) of his career.
- Toronto is 4-1 at home.
- Last week, linebackers Adarius Pickett (103) and Isaac Darkangelo (100) became the first Argonauts duo to record 100+ defensive tackles in the same season.
