WINNIPEG BLUE BOMBERS
1. DRU BROWN
Dru Brown will be a key until Zach Collaros returns. He’ll have to be better than the 15 yards he had in the second half against Toronto if he wants to lead his team to victory. Look for him to lean on all of his receivers to move the offence downfield.
2. ONTARIA WILSON RETURNS
Brown will have help as Ontaria Wilson makes his way back into the lineup for the first time since being injured in the Banjo Bowl. Wilson has caught 56 passes for 739 yards in 12 games this season, 114 of which came in a 44-28 win in Week 13 over these Alouettes.
3. IT’S GOING TO GET LOUD
The Bombers are no strangers to playing in loud environments, and Montreal is sure to be another. Pre-snap communication will be critical as Winnipeg tries to avoid making mental mistakes against a team that’s dominant at home.
MONTREAL ALOUETTES
1. SPEEDY STEVIE SCOTT III
Running back Stevie Scott III had his best game of the season when he rushed for 108 yards versus Hamilton in Week 16, which included a pair of runs over 10. Winnipeg has struggled against the ground game, averaging 110.4 yards against, so a repeat performance could be on the horizon.
2. NO HOLES UP FRONT
Running back Brady Oliveira should be busy again. He’s posted consecutive games with over 100 yards, putting the focus on Als’ linebacker Tyrice Beverette and the rest of the front to make sure he doesn’t make it three in a row.
3. NATE BEAUCHEMIN AND LORENZO BURNS
As Beverette deals with Oliveira, defensive backs Nate Beauchemin and Lorenzo Burns need to keep tight coverage on the Bombers’ weapons at receiver. Beauchemin leads the team with three interceptions, while Burns owned the league lead with 13 pass knockdowns coming into action this week.
NEED TO KNOW:
- Brown is 0-2 against Montreal, while Als’ quarterback Davis Alexander is 0-1 versus Winnipeg.
- Last week, Bombers quarterback Bryce Perkins rushed for a 76-yard touchdown – the longest rush of the season.
- In his first three CFL games, Winnipeg receiver Dorian Singer has 14 receptions for two touchdowns and 209 yards, including 113 last week.
- Als receiver Tyson Philpot is nine catches away from setting the Canadian record set by Brad Sinopoli in 2018 with 116.
