The Porvoo Butchers have a tough early-season test today as they take on the defending champion Kuopio Steelers. Both teams have played well to start the year and look to earn their place in the post-season once again this August.

The Porvoo Butchers (2-1) come into this week feeling confident after a blowout win over UNC. In that game, quarterback Brandon Gwinner played well. The dual-threat passer was able to move the ball well down the field finding receiver Mikko Seppanen often. If Gwinner has time in the pocket today, he may be able to keep the Butchers in the game against a talented Steelers team.
Defensively, veteran Timi Nuikka and the rest of the Butchers will have their hands full against a skilled Steelers offense. If the Butcher’s defensive line can create some havoc, they could have the defending champions sweating on the road.
The Kuopio Steelers offense is led by Joey Bradley and Leanthony Reasnover who are back for a second year. Reasnover is a skilled ball carrier who can hurt defenses as both a runner and receiver. Last week he put in a show running for 270 yards flashing an elite combination of vision, power, and elusiveness. Receiver Hannes Harju hopes to get involved more in the passing game along with talents Ville Lindsten and Tuuka Lehtonen.
Defensively, the Steelers (3-0) front seven is scary. Defensive tackle Ikeem Allen continues to be one of the best players in the league benefiting from the other skilled defensive linemen such as Jani Lindqvist. Linebacker Colby Campbell is a former D1 (Duke Blue Devils) talent that is finding his feet in the Maple League already making an impact despite arriving to Finland only a short time ago.
The Steelers aim to stay undefeated as they march closer to a potential third straight Maple Bowl title. With a physical defense and steady offense, expect head coach Pekka Utrainen to have his Steelers ready to go as they arrive in Porvoo.
