LIVESTREAM Finland: Wasa Royals @ Seinäjoki Crocodiles, June 28, 17:30 CET (5:30 pm, 11:30 am ET)

The Seinäjoki Crocodiles will open their season at home when they host the Wasa Royals (0-1) in this Monday Night Maple League matchup.

The Crocodiles are eager to start off their season on the right foot, while the Royals look to bounce back after a disappointing season opener.

The Wasa Royals kicked off their season with a 35-3 loss to the defending champion Kuopio Steelers. Quarterback Brandon Gwinner will look to involve two-way star Tommy Kaczocha more in the offense. Running backs Nico Barrow and Tom Suoste aim to get some momentum on the ground as both of these physical backs can pick up tough yards. On the outside, German receiver Jan Hochschild expects to contribute more in the Royals second game.

Defensively, the Royals feature player is defensive tackle Ray Lima. Lima’s size (6’3″, 305 pounds) and NFL experience should help the Royals contain the Crocodiles powerful running game. Safety Tommy Kaczocha will be matched up against Crocodiles running back Christian Powell as the two have faced off many times over the past two seasons in Finland.

The Crocodiles roster features some key new players as head Coach Samu Jappu has added quarterback Zach Whitehead (Kings College NCAA D3), and former CFL Global receiver Frenchman Benjamin Plu. Whitehead’s athleticism pairs well with returning running back Christian Powell. Powell has been the Maple League’s leading rusher two out of the last three seasons. The former Colorado University Buffalo (NCAA D1) projects to be one of the league’s premiere back once again this summer.

Defensively 6’4 290lb defensive lineman Filip Zacok returns to Seinäjoki from Indiana State (NCAA D1 FCS). Zacok’s size and division one college experience meshes well with linebackers Saiduo Jallow, Veika Lehtonen, and Maple League all star Jaska Varinen. Athlete Nathaniel Robitaille will also help out on defense, special teams, as well as offense.

Seinäjoki’s revamped team is eager to make some noise in the wide-open Maple League. The Royals, on the other hand, are eager to bounce back from a disappointing season opener in this rivalry game.
