QB Brandon Gwinner re-signs with Finland’s Wasa Royals

The Wasa Royals, Finnish Maple League semifinalists in 2020, have re-signed one of their key players, quarterback Brandon Gwinner.

Gwinner had an outstanding year with the Royals, leading the team to the semifinal round. He then went straight from the playoffs in Finland to Poland where he guided the Bialystok Lowlanders to a berth in the Polish championship game.

The 23 year old, 6’3″, 220 pound from Morrisville State, was called in to the Lowlanders after the starter had to leave for personal reasons.

Playing for the Royals in Finland’s Maple League, he was the fourth leading passer in the shortened season in Finland throwing for 732 yards and seven touchdowns in five games but he was the fifth leading rusher with 364 yards on 68 carries and scored eight touchdowns on the ground.

In 2019, he played for the Brisbane Rhinos in Australia where he threw for over 30 touchdowns and was named team MVP.  He started the 2020 season with the Yeditepe Eagles of the Turkish League of American Football and managed to play and win one game before the coronavirus pandemic shut down the season. Gwinner spent four seasons at Morrisville State before joining the Rhinos. At Morrisville, he threw for 4,215 yards and 34 touchdowns in 26 games.
