The Potsdam Royals (3-0) will host the Dresden Monarchs (2-1) in this highly anticipated GFL North matchup.
Both of these teams are stacked with talent and have started off the season looking like German Bowl contenders.
The Dresden Monarchs have bounced back from their close season opening loss to the Cologne Crocodiles to win their last two games. Seven days ago, the Monarchs handed the New Yorker Lions their first regular season loss since September, 2018. The win was due in part to the play of quarterback KJ Carta-Samuels and receivers Radim Kalous and Darrell Stewart. Dresden’s passing offense has looked better and better each week as Carta-Samuels grows more and more comfortable with his new teammates. Today, Dresden’s playmakers face off against an athletic Potsdam secondary. At the line of scrimmage, Potsdam’s elite pass rushers will put the Dresden offensive line to the test.

Defensively, the Monarchs are led by safety Timothy Hagmann from Switzerland. The athletic Hagmann has helped the Monarchs secondary gel and play its best football against the Lions last week. This week however, the German Football League’s leading rusher Jake Mayon, will be the player for Dresden to key on. Look for linebacker Kaulana Apelu (Oregon University NCAA D1) to provide a excellent match up to contain the shifty Jake Mayon.
The aforementioned Mayon has been the main feature of this Royals offense. Complemented by play action passes and dual threat quarterback PJ Settles, the Potsdam offense has looked in sync and crisp through three weeks. Expect late arrival Feli Manoka to make an impact as the 6’3 Belgian wide receiver has been one of the GFL’s top receivers the last two seasons, racking up 26 total touchdowns during that time. Coach Vogt will look to involve Italian-American quarterback Giovanni Rescigno as well who threw five passes last week in his first game with the Royals.
Potsdam’s defense features two standout defensive backs in Adehkeem Brown and Abu Daramy Swaray. The Royals secondary will have to step up today as they face a Dresden passing attack poised for another big game. At the line of scrimmage, the defensive line features skilled pass rushers Malcom Engstroem from Sweden and OJ Thompson. The two are eager to get after Carta-Samuels and beat the Monarchs in front of their home fans.
Fans are excited for this game as it’s a great matchup between two of Germany’s best squads. The winner of this matchup puts themselves in the driver’s seat in a highly competitive GFL North.
