LIVESTREAM GERMANY: Frankfurt Universe @ Allgäu Comets, August 22, 15:00 CET (3pm, 9am ET)

The Allgäu Comets (4-2) will play host to the Frankfurt Universe (0-6) in this GFL Sunday matchup. These two teams were scheduled to play on July 24th, however, the game was postponed due to a covid outbreak. The Comets are eager to bounce back today, coming off of a heartbreaking loss to the Schwäbisch HallUnicorns last week. Across the field, Frankfurt looks to play well in Kempten after a disappointing stretch.

Allgäu went toe to toe with one of the best teams in Europe last week scoring 22 points against a tough Unicorn’s defense. Glenn Toonga has been the Comet’s go-to playmaker rushing for 788 yards and 10 touchdowns in six games this season. The quarterback position however seems to be a question mark in Kempten. Young Brit Sam Huxtable played well through his first two games, yet struggled last week throwing three interceptions against a well-coached and athletic Schwäbisch Hall defense. Newly signed quarterback Jake Schimenz entered the game late and was able to throw and run for a touchdown keeping the Comets in the game late. Schimenz is an exciting player to watch, his athleticism and improvisational style can keep fans on the edge of their seats. Expect both quarterbacks to play today against a Frankfurt defense that has struggled this season.

Frankfurt Universe @ Allgäu Comets, August 22, 15:00 CET (3pm, 9am ET)

Defensively Comets have one of the best front sevens in Europe. Middle linebacker Niall Padden along with emerging defender Kevin Titz give this linebacking core speed and physicality. The defensive line however is the Comet’s strongest unit. Peter Aretesen leads the league with 10 sacks, opposite of him Jermaine Guynn and Jonell Pelie combine with defensive tackle Johannes Wagner make this front four a tough matchup for any European offensive line.

Frankfurt’s offense has struggled this season. However, quarterback Glenn Cuiellette is an exciting player to watch. His athleticism and accuracy have led the former Tulane (NCAA D1) quarterback to success as a Dresden Monarch in 2019 and a Bismark Buck in the Arena Football League this year. Expect Cuiellette to target speedy receiver Brandon Butler Jr. often today. The former US Airmen living in Germany is a phenomenal athlete with good hands that can give this Universe offense a spark on offense or special teams. In the running game, Quarderman Sloan exploded on the scene last week running for 142 yards on only ten carries. Expect the Universe coaching staff to get Quaderman plenty of touches today after his breakout performance last week.

The Universe’s defense has struggled this year giving up a dismal 493 yards per game. Today the Universe defense will have to stop the run, as the Comets boast of one of the country’s best running games. Young outside linebacker Marius Markert is a key player to watch on this struggling defense. The versatile defender can play the run or pass equally well, making tackles and covering tight ends and running backs well throughout the season.

The Comets have made a name for themselves during the first half of the German Football League. A proud Allgäu fan base is excited to cheer on the region’s only first league sports team back into the postseason. Viewers can expect to hear the cowbells clanking at the Comets fans will make their presence heard. Expect the Comets to play well today against a rebuilding Frankfurt squad.
