LIVESTREAM: Germany – Kirchdorf Wildcats @Allgäu Comets, June 17, 2p (8a EST)

The 3-2 Allgäu Comets return to Illerstadion in Kempten, Germany to play host to the 2-2-1 Kirchdorf Wildcats in a key matchup in the German Football League South division Sunday, June 17.

The Comets are coming off a surprising 28-14 loss to the Marburg Mercenaries last week. The “Flying Circus” offense struggled in that game. Meanwhile, Kirchdorf defeated the same Marburg team the week before 29-24.

In five games, Allgäu has scored 178 points while allowing 161. Meanwhile, it is obvious that the Wildcats have relied more on defense as they have only averaged 14.2 points of offense a game while allowing 24.

The difference is, as most observers know, the passing game. Allgäu is the top passing team in Germany with quarterback Justin Sottilare averaging 418.4 yards per game and having thrown 21 TD passes. Wildcats quarterback Cameron Birse has only thrown for 573 yards and five touchdowns in five games. His favorite receiver has clearly been Clemens Erlsbacher who has 18 catches for 390 yards and three of those touchdowns.

Comets receivers Jordan Paul, Martin Emos, Jonatan Gihl and Spencer Cutlan occupy four of the top six spots in the GFL for receptions per game. Paul is second in the league in receiving yardage per game with 122.2 and Emos is sixth with 90.8.

So the Wildcats will be preparing for an aerial bombardment when they head into today’s game. Obviously they will have examined the game film from the Comets loss last week. Marburg held the vaunted Allgau passing game to a respectable 282 yards.

This will be an interesting matchup. Nevertheless, there is no question the Comets want to atone to what was for them an embarrassment last week. They do not wish to disappoint their home fans.
