The Kiel Baltic Hurricanes (4-7-1) will play host to the 5-7 Potsdam Royals in a crucial late season German Football League matchup at Kilia Stadion in Kiel, August 25.

The Royals won the first meeting between these two teams two months ago, whipping Kiel 50-21. Since then, the Hurricanes have only played two games, a win and a loss against the Hildesheim Invaders.  Meanwhile, Potsdam has lost four of the five games they have played since that victory, including a heart-breaking 21-18 loss to the Berlin Rebels.

The Hurricanes have won one of their last four games, a 37-15 defeat of the Hildesheim Invaders.  They had not won a game before that since June 9 when they beat the Berlin Rebels. Until then, Kiel had undergone an improvement after the arrival of quarterback Lenorris Footman who had an impact.  In fact, in that game he played well throwing for 189 yards and a touchdown and scoring one on the ground. In seven games he has thrown for 1,355 yards and 11 touchdowns. He has also rushed for 441 yards and 11 touchdowns.With a running back duo of Khris Francis (662 yards) and Julian Ampaw (457), Kiel has a potent running attack.

The Royals have enjoyed a decent season in their first year in the GFL and have added a European Football League crown. Potsdam defeated Italy’s Milano Seamen in the European Football League final in a thriller, 43-42..

Potsdam has sixth highest scoring offense in Germany averaging 28.9 points and 346.1 yards per game.

Royals quarterback Austin Gahafer is the 7th leading passer with 2,510 yards and 31 TDs after 12 games and  Danish WR Frederik Myrup Nielsen his top receiver, has returned to the lineup after missing three games. Despite missing those games, he is still the  5th leading receiver in Germany with 896 yards, averaging 99.6 yards per game. Potsdam running back Tyvis Smith gives the Royals gives his team a potent running attack is the top rusher in Germany with 1,171 yards and 10 touchdowns.

The fourth place spot in the GFL North standings is still up for grabs, with the Royals, Hurricanes and Cologne Crocodiles all in the hunt.
