The Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns (8-0) return to OPTIMA Sportpark on Saturday to host the Allgäu Comets (1-6) in a German Football League South matchup as the league leaders look to remain unbeaten. While the Unicorns continue their march toward the division title, the Comets are searching for a statement performance that could provide momentum for the second half of the season.
The game also marks the annual homecoming celebration for the Unicorns, adding another layer of significance to an already important afternoon.
Unicorns keep finding answers
The Unicorns reinforced their status as one of the GFL’s elite teams before the summer break, rallying from a 14-point deficit to defeat the Pforzheim Wilddogs 28-23 on the road.
With starting quarterback Lars Heidrich, running back Kelley Joiner and offensive lineman Marco Fischer unavailable, backup quarterback Julius Klenk stepped in and delivered an outstanding performance. Klenk threw touchdown passes to Marvin Fuchs and Rayjuon Pringle, added a rushing score of his own and helped engineer a comeback that preserved Schwäbisch Hall’s unbeaten season.
The defense also came through when it mattered most, adjusting after a difficult start and shutting down the Wilddogs over the closing stages to secure the victory.

Comets embrace challenge
The Comets know they enter the weekend as underdogs, but they also see the matchup as an opportunity to measure themselves against the top team in the South Division.
Quarterback Brad Jones remains the focal point of the offense with his ability to make plays both inside and outside the pocket. Tight end Gabe Quigley has become one of Jones’ most reliable targets, while receivers Joshua Dutton, Martin Horn, Chris Lipsey, Elias Kraljevic and Otis Newbury provide additional options in the passing game.
The running attack featuring Benedikt Schulz and Lipsey will also be important if Allgäu hopes to keep the Unicorns’ offense off the field.
Discipline will be essential
For the Comets, limiting turnovers and sustaining long drives may be the only way to slow one of the league’s most complete teams. Defensively, players including Beau Priegnitz, Leon Eisert, Daniel Moradi, Steven Andersen, David King, Richard Scheel, Silas Arnold and Dominik Wünsche will be tasked with containing an offense that has consistently punished mistakes throughout the season.
The Unicorns have shown they can overcome adversity, whether by leaning on their defense or finding production from new contributors. Allgäu has flashed potential despite its record, but upsetting the undefeated league leaders on their home field would require their most complete performance of the season.
