LIVESTREAM Germany: Saarland Hurricanes @ Stuttgart Scorpions, August 14, 17:00 CET (5 pm, 11:00 am ET)

The Stuttgart Scorpions (1-6) will host the Saarland Hurricanes (5-1) in one of six GFL games on AFI.tv today.

The Hurricanes are eager to get back on the field after a bye week as they seem poised to make a playoff run. Across the field, the Scorpions aim to finish the season strong as they only have three games left on their schedule.

Stuttgart is coming off of a tough loss to the Allgäu Comets. Their offense was shut out and special teams and turnovers didn’t help their cause either. This week expect the Scorpions to target receiver Patrick Donahue. The veteran still runs crisp routes, possesses elite hands, and has game-changing speed. Donahue is a true gamer on the outside who should see plenty of action today. At quarterback Brandon Reaume is a fantastic athlete. Reaume has the speed to be an effective runner as well as the accuracy to hit his receivers in stride. Look for him to make some plays against this Hurricanes defense today.

Stuttgart’s defense features veteran defensive back, Marcus Bratton. Bratton along with Saury Heiniger create an experienced and athletic secondary that could things tough on Saarland’s passing attack. Linebacker Geronimo De Pauli and Leon Epple are two players in Stuttgart’s front seven who have stood out this season. Defensive end Leon Epple could be adding to his sack total today as the Hurricanes throw the ball often.

Saarland has been the surprise of the GFL South this season. Head coach Christos Lambropoulos has led the Hurricanes to a phenomenal record making a strong case for coach of the year. Coach Lambropoulos’s quarterback, Josh Goldin has been one of the main drivers to the Hurricane’s success, passing for 1,876 yards and 23 touchdowns on the season. The former Colorado University (NCAA D1) walk-on has shined in his role as a starter in Saarbrucken, making great decisions with the ball and directing an efficient offense. Two of his best weapons are running back Kai Hunter and former University of California (NCAA D1) receiver Victor Wharton III. H-back Leon Helm is also a player to watch today as the physical back has shown good hands and speed out of the backfield this season.

Defensively former South Carolina Gamecock (NCAA D1) Chaz Elder is a game-changer for Saarland. His four interceptions and kick returning skills give him the ability to change any game in one play. Sesan Jelvani brings versatility to this defense he’s played all over the field for coach Lambropoulos, notching five sacks in the process. Expect the Saarland defensive line to have a big day as Stuttgart has struggled up front this season.

The Hurricanes enter the final stretch of the season looking to secure a playoff spot. Stuttgart hopes to stay ahead of Frankfurt and avoid relegation. Fan’s can anticipate some big plays from both teams today as both the Scorpions and the Hurricanes have athletes with big-play potential.
