LIVESTREAM Germany: Stuttgart Scorpions @ Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns, July 3, 14:30 CET (2:30 pm, 08:30 am ET)

The Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns (2-0) will host the Stuttgart Scorpions (1-3) in this Baden-Württemberg rivalry as the German Football League heads into its fifth round of play.

Both teams enter today with confidence as the Unicorns are coming off of a CEFL championship, while Stuttgart put up 55 points and earned their first win of the season last week.

Stuttgart spotted Frankfurt a 14-0 lead last week only to crush them 55-14. Quarterback Wyatt Hutchinson played well finding his receivers deep as well as picking up first downs with his legs. Hutchinson finished the day with 365 total yards and a jaw dropping eight touchdowns. Stuttgart’s offense explosion was due in large part to the addition of veteran Patrick Donahue. Donahue returned to the playing field after helping the Scorpions as a coach the first three games. Donahue was once one of Europe’s top players, helping the Unicorns reach back-to-back German Bowls, and winning the Austrian Bowl with the Swarco Raiders. Donahue turned back the clock last week against Frankfurt, putting up an eye popping 123 yard and three touchdown performance.

Stuttgart’s defense is led by linebacker Geronimo De Pauli who, together with Stuttgart defensive lineman Leon Epple, will have to play a phenomenal game in order to contain a talented core of Unicorns skill players.

On Wednesday, Stuttgart announced that starting quarterback Wyatt Hutchinson would be returning to the US to pursue another career opportunity. Scorpions management announced that he will be replaced by Canadian quarterback Brandon Reaume (University of Windsor CIS) who was originally signed by Stuttgart for the 2020 season that was eventually cancelled. His athleticism and powerful right arm make him the perfect replacement for Hutchinson’s athletic and gunslinging play style.

The Unicorns Central European Football League Championship was a fantastic team performance. One player who stood out was former NFL tight end Mortiz Böhringer. After a quiet first few games returning to Europe, Böhringer finally had his breakout game. His large frame, soft hands, and speed were too much for the Raiders to handle. It’s a given that Böhringer will see some footballs again this week.  Meanwhile, running back John Santiago remains sidelined with an injury, so expect Sebastian Giel and Jannies Fiedler to carry to load in the run game. German quarterback Alex Haupert should be feeling confident after leading Schwäbisch Hall to their first ever CEFL title last week with his game winning touchdown pass.

The Unicorns defense will look to contain former teammate Donahue. Look for cornerback Monteze Lattimore to take Donahue on man to man, giving fans an exciting matchup to watch. Linebacker Nick Alfieri returns and is poised to shut down Scorpions running back Giacomo De Pauli on the ground.

Stuttgart will look to keep positive momentum this week against the powerhouse Unicorns. Meanwhile Schwäbisch Hall is eager to play in front of their home fans once again and celebrate the strong start to their 2021 season.
