Hungary (0-1) hosts Poland (0-1) Saturday at Székesfehérvár First Field in Székesfehérvár as both teams chase their first victory in the 2026/27 IFAF U19 European Tackle Football Championships.

Neither can advance to the medal round from Group C, but there is still plenty riding on the matchup. The winner takes its first step toward the group that will battle for seventh place overall, while Poland is looking for the first U19 victory in its national team history.

Poland came close in its debut

Poland showed immediately that it could compete at this level when it made its international debut against three-time European champion Finland in April.

The Poles pushed the Finns all the way before falling 16-13, coming within three points of pulling off a major upset.

Head coach T.J. Richardson and his staff used that game to identify where the team needed to improve, then brought the squad together for an intense three-day camp in August. Richardson said the focus was on rebuilding chemistry and establishing an identity across offense, defense and special teams.

Now Poland gets another opportunity to turn a competitive performance into a historic first win.

Hungary looks to bounce back at home

Hungary’s opening assignment could hardly have been tougher. The Hungarians hosted Germany in April and were handed a 79-7 loss by a team now battling Finland for the Group C title.

Head coach László Pacuk has emphasized discipline, energy and confidence as Hungary prepares for its second game of the competition. He also sees the matchup as another chance for his young players to gain international experience.

Playing at home gives Hungary an opportunity to put the difficult opener behind it and show how far the team has come since April.

First win on the line

The stakes are different from the Germany–Finland showdown at the top of the group, but they are hardly meaningless.

Poland came within one possession of winning its debut. Hungary wants a response after a rough opening afternoon.

On Saturday, one of them will finally leave the field with its first win of the tournament.
