The Bolzano Giants (5-0) will look to keep their unbeaten streak alive when they play host to the 2-3 Ancona Dolphins Sunday, May 5, at  Stadio Europa in Bolzano, Italy.

The last time these two teams met was in 2018 with the Giants coming away with a 29-12 win.

Bolzano sit atop the standings in Italy after having opened the season with five straight wins, including a thrilling 36-32 victory over the Firenze Guelfi.  First the Giants came out 41-7 winners over the Torino Giaguari and then defeated Bergamo 28-24  and the Parma  Panthers 20-6. Three weeks ago, the Giants disposed of the Bologna Warriors 33-6.

The Giants are second in Italy in offense producing 340.4 yards per game, and second in defense allowing just 15 points a game. Ancona’s offense has struggled producing just 16.6 points a game while the 4th ranked defense has fared better surrendering 23.2.

Giants QB, Austin Gahafer Giants is the second leading passer in Italy averaging 222.2 yards passing a game, while his favorite target, Mark Simone is the runaway receiving leader averaging 109.4 yards per game, almost double that of the second leading receiver.

The Dolphins have won two games in a row, beating the Bologna Warriors 18-15 and the Bergamo Lions 37-17. Prior to that, Ancona had lost three in a row, to the Parma Panthers, 14-10, Lazio Ducks, 41-12, and the Milano Seamen 29-6.

Ancona’s Nelson Hughes is the 5th ranked quarterback in Italy averaging 162.8 yards a game. Dylan Albertson is his leading receiver and second overall in the country with 27 receptions for 384 yards and six touchdowns. However, the Ancona running attack is anemic averaging 49 yards a game, worst in the league.
