LIVESTREAM PPV: SuperFinal – Swarco Raiders (Austria) @Copenhagen Towers (Denmark), June 30, 7:30p (1:30p EST)

The Copenhagen Towers from Denmark, newly crowned Northern European Football League champions, take on Austria’s Swarco Raiders, winners of the Central European Football League title, in the Superfinal of American football in Europe at Gentofte Stadion in Copenhagen, Saturday, June 30.

The Towers defeated Sweden’s Carlstad Crusaders 44-43 in a thriller in Karlstad, Sweden to capture the NEFL crown. En route they downed the Oslo Vikings from Norway, 21-10 and then they whipped Great Britain’s Tamworth Phoenix 50-7.

Against the Crusaders, new Towers quarterback Randy Schroeder threw for 286 yards and four touchdowns ,throwing the final, game-winning touchdown pass to Jakob Green with just 24 seconds left in the game. Running back Dayton Winn wscored three touchdowns. He rushed for 117 yards and two touchdowns and caught two passes for 27 yards and another touchdown. Green caught six passes for 116 yards and that touchdown while Lasse Tor Hansen caught three passes for 31 yards and a touchdown. Aske Troen Klixbüll caught two passes for 46 yards and a touchdown.

Since Schroeder’s arrival, the Towers offense has averaged just over 49 points a game including the win over Carlstad.

Swarco’s road to the final went through Prague where they defeated the Prague Black Panthers 44-21. Then they beat the Polish champions, the Wroclaw Panthers 63-21 before winning the CEFL Bowl, downing Turkey’s Koc Rams 49-20.

In the final against the Rams, Swarco running back Sandro Platzgummer led the way scoring four touchdowns, three on runs of seven, 10 and 70 yards to go along with a brilliant 40 yard punt return for a touchdown. Wide receiver  Fabian Abfalter, scored three touchdowns in that game.

Quarterback Sean Shelton is the key to the potent Raider offense. He finished the regular season in the Austrian Football League as the 3rd leading passer with 2,594 yards and a league best 34 TD passes.

The Towers will be facing the best defense they have seen all season in Swarco. In 10 games in the Austrian league, the Raiders have allowed only 14 passing touchdowns and an average of 186 yards passing per game. On the other hand, they can be susceptible to the run giving up 142 yard rushing a game.

If Swarco can keep Towers running back Dayton Winn in check, they can put pressure on Schroeder. However, the Copenhagen quarterback likes to throw quick passes underneath which will force the Raiders front seven to adjust.

A wild card in this game could be Raiders receiver/returner Patrick Donahue. The Towers will have to keep an extra eye on him, especially during punt returns. In his final year in the German Football League in 2016 with the Schwabisch Hall Unicorns, Donahue was the leading punt and kick returner. While Swarco has not used him as much, he is extremely dangerous.
