LIVE STREAM & PREVIEW: Braunschweig New Yorker Lions v. Hamburg Huskies

Europe’s top American football team – the Braunschweig New Yorker Lions – get back into action this Friday evening as they host the Hamburg Huskies in German Football League action. The month long break for teams in Germany was due to the schedule being planned around the IFAF World Championship.

Germany - Braunschweig - Therriault

Braunschweig QB Casey Therriault

Huskies head coach André Schleemann will have his hands full as defensive coordinator; he will be facing the most potent offense in Germany. Although Lions quarterback Casey Therriault is not prominent in the German stats, he has played too few games this year to reach totals that would put him there. In his only regular season start against Dresden, with one of the stingiest defenses in Germany, he completed 23 of 28 passes for 315 yards and five touchdowns.

Running back David McCants is averaging just under 100 yards rushing per game and has scored nine touchdowns in six games. The Lions also boast one of the leading kickoff returners and receivers in Germany in French national team player Anthony Dable.

Huskies linebacker Kendral Ellison is a veteran player in Europe and is the second leading tackler in the German league. Defensive back Curtis Slater (Team USA gold medal winner) is a ball hawk and is third in the country with five interceptions.

Germany - Hamburg - Curtis SlaterThis is the first league game for head coach Troy Tomlin and the Lions since June 6 when they cruised past the Dresden Monarchs 47-17 in Therriault’s first starting game in 2015. They then won Eurobowl beating the Schwabish Hall Unicorns 24-14.

The Huskies, who last played Dresden and lost 48-7 on June 20, are third in the German North standings with a 5-2 record.

Although the Lions are second in the German League North standings, behind the Kiel Baltic Hurricanes, they have a game in hand and have beaten the Hurricanes this season. The Huskies two losses came at the hands of Dresden and Kiel. The Lions lost to Dresden as well 27-26 earlier in the season.

The German league gets back underway tomorrow in Europe! Tune in for American football in Europe.

Kickoff: Friday July 24 8 PM (2 PM EDT)
