Pforzheim Wilddogs blank Allgäu Comets to stay in GFL South title chase

The Pforzheim Wilddogs (6-1) continued their impressive German Football League campaign Saturday, shutting out the Allgäu Comets (1-5) 35-0 on the road as a dominant defensive performance paved the way for another convincing victory.

Playing in temperatures approaching 40 degrees Celsius, the Wilddogs overcame a sluggish offensive start before taking complete control to remain firmly in the hunt near the top of the GFL South standings.

Defense leads the way early

The Wilddogs wasted little time making their presence felt, even if the offense initially struggled to find its rhythm.

After Michael Grünes recorded an early sack to force a punt, Jeremy Conley delivered the game’s first big play by blocking a punt, recovering the loose ball in the end zone and giving Pforzheim a 7-0 lead.

The offense followed with its first touchdown drive soon afterward as Dre Harris connected deep with Luca Faschian for a touchdown, stretching the lead to 14-0.

Meanwhile, the Wilddogs defense consistently frustrated the Comets, allowing almost nothing to develop offensively while forcing difficult situations throughout the first half.

Wilddogs pull away after halftime

The third quarter removed any remaining doubt.

On the opening possession after halftime, Harris found Faschian for his second touchdown reception of the afternoon to make it 21-0.

The offense continued to build momentum. Harris then connected with AJ Coons for another touchdown before Antonio Alzheimer intercepted a pass to hand the ball right back to the offense.

Just four plays later, Harris and Coons hooked up again for another score, extending the advantage to 35-0 and putting the game completely out of reach.

Shutout completes dominant performance

While the offense found its stride after halftime, the defense never let up.

The Comets reached the red zone late in the fourth quarter looking to avoid the shutout, but the Wilddogs stood tall, forcing a turnover on downs inside the 15-yard line to preserve the clean sheet.

Even after rotating backups into the lineup during the final quarter, Pforzheim maintained control and never allowed the home side onto the scoreboard.

The victory highlighted exactly what has made the Wilddogs one of the GFL South’s toughest teams this season. Harris spread the ball effectively, Faschian and Coons each produced multiple touchdown catches, Conley provided a game-changing special teams play, and the defense delivered a complete four-quarter performance to finish off an emphatic road win.
