Prague Black Panthers stay hot, hold off Swarco Raiders Tirol for fifth straight victory

The Prague Black Panthers (7-2) strengthened their grip on second place in the Austrian Football League with a 33-21 victory over the Swarco Raiders Tirol (0-9) at the Athletic Field Rugby Club Sparta in Prague.

Panthers strike first

The home side wasted little time getting on the scoreboard. After big gains from Luke Skokna and Jan Vrnata, Jakub Wolesky capped the opening drive with a short touchdown run.

The Raiders answered immediately in spectacular fashion as Mateusz Patalas returned the ensuing kickoff all the way for a touchdown. The missed extra point left Prague with a narrow lead, but it showed the visitors were ready to compete.

The Black Panthers responded behind their effective ground game. Skokna and Jakub Brezina helped move the offense downfield before Skokna punched in another touchdown to make it 12-7.

Prague creates separation

The game remained tight until late in the second quarter when Viktor Jenicek came up with an interception to give the Black Panthers excellent field position.

Quarterback Amos Feranec took advantage, scoring on a rushing touchdown before Skokna added the two-point conversion. The sequence sent Prague into halftime with a 20-7 advantage.

Raiders keep fighting

The Raiders came out energized after the break. Kenyatte Allen connected with Patalas for a touchdown pass, cutting the deficit to 20-14 and putting pressure back on the home side.

However, a turnover proved costly. After a Tirol fumble, Skokna found the end zone again, extending the lead to 26-14 at the end of the third quarter.

Skokna continued his big day in the fourth quarter with his third touchdown of the game, helping the Black Panthers maintain control.

Elija Heiß scored late for the Raiders, but the visitors could not get any closer.

The victory keeps the Prague Black Panthers firmly in second place in the AFL standings, while the Swarco Raiders Tirol remain in search of their first win of the season despite another determined effort.
