Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns blank Razorbacks to stay unbeaten atop GFL South

The Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns (6-0) remained perfect in the German Football League South Saturday night, shutting out the defending South Division champion Ravensburg Razorbacks (3-3) 28-0 in a matchup that gradually turned into a defensive masterclass at OPTIMA Sportpark.

Originally scheduled for the afternoon, kickoff was delayed twice because of extreme heat, making it the first floodlit game of the season for the Unicorns. Once play finally got underway, both defenses controlled the early action before Schwäbisch Hall took command in the second half.

Defenses dominate early

Neither offense found much rhythm during the opening quarter.

The Razorbacks were forced to punt on each of their first three possessions, while the Unicorns squandered their own opportunities with a fumble near the goal line and an interception thrown by Lars Heidrich.

The defensive battle continued into the second quarter. Ravensburg drove deep into Schwäbisch Hall territory but came away empty after a missed 25-yard field goal.

The Unicorns immediately made the visitors pay.

Joiner sparks the offense

On the first offensive snap after the missed kick, Kelley Joiner burst through the middle of the Razorbacks defense and raced 81 yards for the game’s first touchdown. Jimmy Sawang added the extra point for a 7-0 lead.

The momentum continued to swing toward the home side as Monteze Latimore came up with his first interception of the night, helping preserve the halftime advantage.

Although the score remained close through two quarters, Schwäbisch Hall had begun taking control on both sides of the ball.

Defense seals the victory

The second half belonged entirely to the Unicorns.

Heidrich found Rayjuon Pringle on a 43-yard touchdown strike before the same combination connected again from 17 yards out to extend the lead to 21-0.

Meanwhile, the Razorbacks offense had no answer for the relentless Schwäbisch Hall defense.

Latimore put the finishing touch on the victory in the fourth quarter, intercepting a pass and returning it 50 yards for a touchdown. He later added a third interception to cap a remarkable individual performance.

With the victory, the Unicorns improved to 6-0 and strengthened their hold on first place in the German Football League South. For the Razorbacks, the loss dropped them to 3-3 as they were shut out for the first time this season by one of the league’s stingiest defenses.
