Germany: Dresden Monarchs dominate Düsseldorf Panther 45-20
The Dresden Monarchs improved to 2-0 in the German Football League by defeating the Düsseldorf Panther 45-20 this past weekend at at Benrath Stadium in Düsseldorf.
The Monarchs displayed their defensive strength and offensive capabilities, marking their first road win of the season.
Strong defensive start
The Monarchs‘ defense set the tone early forcing a Panther fumble on the first play from scrimmage in excellent field position. Quarterback Rocky Lombardi quickly capitalized, connecting with Tristan Maerz for a touchdown, putting the Monarchs up 7-0. The Panther responded with a solid drive led by quarterback Isaiah Weed, who found James Okike for a touchdown, leveling the score at 7-7.
Back-and-forth battle
The first half turned into a back-and-forth contest, with both teams trading blows. The Panther took a brief lead when Weed scored on a rushing touchdown, making it 14-7. However, Dresden‘s Vance Feuerbach intercepted a pass from Weed and returned it for a touchdown, tying the game again at 14-14. The Monarchs‘ defense continued to apply pressure, forcing turnovers and limiting the Panther‘s scoring opportunities.
Second half surge
After the break, the Monarchs came out with renewed energy. Running back Tofunmi Lala opened with a strong kickoff return, and Lombardi quickly capitalized by rushing for a touchdown, regaining the lead at 21-14. A field goal from Florian Finke extended the lead to 24-14. The Monarchs‘ defense continued to shine, with Feuerbach snagging his second interception and returning it for another touchdown, pushing the score to 31-14.
Closing the game
Despite a valiant effort from the Panther, who managed to score another touchdown through Weed to Daniel Luoma, the Monarchs maintained control. They responded with a powerful run from Lala, making it 37-20. The final blow came when Elian Canet recovered a fumble and scored, sealing the game at 45-20.
The Dresden Monarchs demonstrated their championship potential with this win, while the Düsseldorf Panther showed promise despite the loss. Both teams will look to build on this game as the season progresses, with the Monarchs aiming for another victory next week against Kiel.
