AFLE: First win finally arrives for London Warriors

The London Warriors (1-3) earned the first victory in franchise history in the American Football League Europe, rolling past the Firenze Red Lions (0-3) 51-26 in a breakout performance that showcased the potential of the expansion club.

After opening their inaugural AFLE campaign with three straight defeats, London finally put everything together on both sides of the ball, overwhelming Firenze with a balanced offensive attack and consistent production throughout the afternoon.

London offense finds its rhythm

The biggest difference for the Warriors was the play of quarterback Karé Lyles and an offense that looked comfortable from the opening drive.

Protected well by his offensive line, Lyles directed the attack with confidence and efficiency, moving the ball consistently and allowing London to control the tempo of the game. The Warriors repeatedly finished drives and kept pressure on a Firenze defense that struggled to find answers.

The result was a season-high 51 points and by far the most productive offensive outing in franchise history.

Playmakers lead the way

The Warriors received contributions from several key weapons.

Running back Andy Owusu continued his strong season, powering his way to two touchdowns while providing a physical presence in the ground game. Wide receiver Kevin Laryea once again proved to be one of London’s most dangerous playmakers, producing just under 100 receiving yards while adding a touchdown of his own.

What stood out most was the balance of the offense. Rather than relying on a single star, the Warriors spread the ball around and created problems for the Red Lions on nearly every possession.

Red Lions still searching

For the Firenze Red Lions, the defeat extended a difficult start to the season.

The Red Lions struggled to slow London’s offensive tempo and were unable to generate enough sustained drives to keep pace once the Warriors gained momentum. After allowing 45 points against Berlin Thunder in Week 3, Firenze again found itself chasing a high-scoring opponent.

For London, however, the day belonged entirely to the home side. The Warriors not only secured their first AFLE victory, but did so in convincing fashion, improving to 1-3 and giving their supporters a milestone moment in franchise history. If this performance is any indication, London may finally be finding its identity as the season progresses.
