Netherlands: Amsterdam Crusaders overcome slow start to defeat Utrecht Dominators

The Amsterdam Crusaders (2–0) remained perfect on the young season, shaking off a sluggish first half to defeat the Utrecht Dominators (1–1) by a score of 27–13 in a hard-fought Eredivisie clash that showcased both teams’ potential.

Dominators strike first
It was all Utrecht early on. After a rough first quarter from both sides, running back Noah Elders broke loose for a 20-yard run, setting up fullback Jim Hollart for a 1-yard touchdown plunge. The Dominators defense dominated the entire first half, consistently stifling the Crusaders’ attack and preserving a 7–0 lead heading into the break.

Crusaders flip the script
Whatever was said in the Amsterdam locker room at halftime worked immediately. A long run by Keanu Deira ignited their first drive, which was capped by a quarterback sneak from Dylan Bakker to tie the game. The momentum swung completely when the Crusaders defense returned a fumble for a touchdown to take the lead. Another takeaway, an interception by Travis Fraser, set up Bakker’s second rushing score of the day, this time on a read option.

Utrecht’s late response falls short
The Dominators showed fight early in the fourth quarter when Timothy Helleman returned an interception for a touchdown, cutting the deficit to 21–13 and breathing life into a potential comeback. But Amsterdam answered right back, with quarterback Davey Noor connecting on a 25-yard touchdown reception to seal the game and extinguish Utrecht’s hopes.

Early season takeaways
While the loss drops Utrecht to 1–1, their strong first-half performance proves the gap with the defending champions may be narrowing. For Amsterdam, the victory maintains their perfect start, but the slow beginning shows there’s still room to grow as they look ahead to the rest of the schedule.
