ELF: Paris Musketeers Sign Top GFL WR Austin Mitchell

The Paris Musketeers of the European League of Football have made a splash signing bringing in the German Football League’s top receiving target from last season in American wide receiver Austin Mitchell.

Mitchell was statistically far and away from the GFL’s top target racking up a league-best 94 catches, 1,627 yards, and 20 touchdowns, good for the top of the league in all three categories. The 5’9 speedster was a key part of the Dresden Monarchs semifinal run in his first season playing abroad.

Before coming to Germany, the Plaquemine, Louisiana native was a standout at Southeastern Louisiana University (FCS DI NCAA), racking up all-conference honors in 2019 and 2020. Mitchell finished his career with 2,735 yards and 24 touchdowns in five seasons, while also serving as his team’s punt and kick returner.

His best collegiate season came in 2021 as he made 56 catches for 770 yards and seven scores in only nine games, earning all-Southland Conference honors.

Mitchell has big shoes to fill in Paris, as last year American import receiver Kyle Sweet recently announced his retirement. Mitchell joins a Paris Musketeers team that finished the 2023 season winning its last four games, as the new team looks to turn heads and become contenders in 2024.
