European Football Alliance announces complete withdrawal from ELF for 2026 season
The European Football Alliance (EFA), representing 11 franchises including the Rhein Fire, Paris Musketeers, Madrid Bravos, Vienna Vikings, Tirol Raiders, Frankfurt Galaxy, Wroclaw Panthers, Prague Lions, Berlin Thunder, Stuttgart Surge, and Nordic Storm, has announced it will not participate in the European League of Football (ELF) starting in 2026.
EFA prioritizes new league model
Citing a need for “sustainable, transparent, and fan-centered” governance, the EFA confirmed plans to develop an NFL-style structure, assuring fans and investors of continued professional football in 2026.
Member franchises drive collaboration
Founded in July 2025, the EFA evolved from the ELF Franchise Association (established April 2024) to unify Europe’s leading teams. The alliance aims to elevate operational standards and expand American football’s growth across the continent through shared resources and strategic partnerships.
Future plans avoid ELF involvement
While details of the new league remain undisclosed, the EFA emphasized collaboration with stakeholders. The withdrawal of its 11 franchises—spanning Germany, France, Spain, Austria, Poland, Czechia, and Scandinavia—leaves the ELF without foundational teams, reshaping Europe’s gridiron landscape.
