German Football League: New Yorker Lions sign British RB Emmanuel Abedi-Bawa

The New Yorker Lions Braunschweig of the German Football League have signed British running back Emmanuel Abedi-Bawa. Head coach Troy Tomlin is known for running the ball well during his tenure in Braunschweig, now it appears he has another ball carrier to bring that same play style into next season.

The 5’10”, 215-pound tailback ran for 404 yards and four scores for the Lübeck Cougars in the GFL2 last season. Besides running hard between the tackles, Abedi Bawa showed his soft hands catching 16 passes for 166 yards and a touchdown. The 23 year old with Ghanaian roots first played football for the Birmingham Lions youth team.

While studying, Abedi-Bawa played football at the University of Stirling helping them win the British University Championship in 2017. In 2019 he really stood out for the Stirling Clansmen scoring ten touchdowns and winning “Offensive MVP” and “Team Running Back of the Year” awards. He also played for the Tamworth Phoenix team in the Premier Division of the BAFA National League.

The British tailback joins imports Adehkeem Brown (DB USA), Nigel Alexander (LB USA), Daniel Kane (OL UK), Arkadiusz Cieslok (OL Poland). Other skill players Adbedi-Bawa will be meshing with are quarterback Jacob Parks (QB, USA) and Isaiah Woods (WR, USA). Expect the Lion’s newest tailback to get plenty of carries as head coach Tomlin loves to run ball and control the clock behind a physical offensive line.
