Hildesheim Invaders stay unbeaten with dominant 35-3 win over Düsseldorf Panthers

The Hildesheim Invaders (3-0) continued their undefeated streak in the effect® Energy GFL with a commanding 35-3 victory over the Düsseldorf Panthers (0-2) at Helios Field. Despite sweltering summer temperatures and missing key players, the Invaders showcased their depth and defensive prowess in front of around 1,200 fans.

Defensive battle begins

From the opening kickoff, both teams displayed strong defensive efforts. The Invaders were missing 17 players, including offensive stars like Daniel Kane and David Beale, but their defense was relentless. Quarterback Isaiah Weed and the Panthers struggled to find their rhythm, facing constant pressure from Hildesheim’s front seven. The first quarter ended scoreless as both defenses held firm, forcing punts and limiting big plays.

Invaders strike first

The Invaders finally broke the deadlock early in the second quarter. Quarterback Nelson Hughes connected with wide receiver Noah Bomba for a touchdown, giving Hildesheim a 7-0 lead after the successful extra point by Paul Krause. The Panthers attempted to respond, but their drive stalled just short of the end zone, and they were forced to settle for a field goal, making it 14-3 after Hildesheim scored again with a touchdown from Pieter Solf.

Hildesheim takes control

After halftime, the Invaders‘ defense continued to shine. They forced multiple turnovers, including a fumble recovery by Timo Vogel. Hughes capitalized on the momentum, throwing a touchdown pass to Paul Terjung, extending the lead to 21-3. Terjung wasn’t done yet; he caught another touchdown pass later in the quarter, pushing the score to 28-3.

In the final quarter, the Invaders maintained control of the game. A deep pass to Philipp Dolezal set up the last touchdown of the day, sealing the victory at 35-3.

Looking ahead

After the game, head coach Marcus Herford praised his team’s discipline and defensive performance. The Invaders remain at the top of the North Group and will face the Braunschweig Lions next week. Meanwhile, the Panthers will regroup and prepare for their upcoming matchup against the Regensburg Phoenix, aiming to find their rhythm and secure their first win of the season.
