Italy: Parma Panthers edge Lazio Marines in hard-fought home victory

The Parma Panthers (2–0) held off a persistent Lazio Marines (0–1) squad 20–14 at Stadio Sergio Lanfranchi in a physical Italian Football League contest that saw both teams trade blows until the final seconds.

Marines strike first in debut
Lazio made an impressive early statement in their season opener, with quarterback Seth Morgan connecting with receiver Matteo Arca for a first-quarter touchdown, followed by a successful kick from Jacopo Impallomeni. The Marines defense initially contained Parma’s high-powered offense, showing poise and discipline in their first competitive action of the year.

Panthers respond with defensive spark
Parma answered swiftly when defensive back Francesco Vasini returned an interception for a touchdown, tying the game after Filippo Neri’s conversion. Just before halftime, quarterback Roman Fuller found receiver Rocco Bonvicini for another score, giving the Panthers a 14–7 lead. Fuller extended the advantage in the third quarter with a touchdown pass to Carlo Tassan, though the extra point was missed.

Lazio fights to the finish
The Marines refused to fade, as Morgan threw his second touchdown of the day to Michele Costa, making it a one-score game after Impallomeni’s kick. A lengthy injury delay involving Mario Zatti paused the action, but Lazio continued to press until the final drive. Parma’s offense managed the clock effectively in the closing moments, sealing the narrow win with a victory formation.

Though not their most explosive performance, the Panthers improved to 2–0, while the Marines demonstrated they belong in the IFL with a gritty road effort. Both teams showed resilience in a game defined by defense and timely plays.
