Japan: IBM Big Blue target fourth win as winless Silver Star stand in their way
The IBM Big Blue (3-3) will look to move above .500 when they face the OrientalBio Silver Star (0-6) Sunday at Fujitsu Stadium Kawasaki in Round 8 of the X League Premier.
IBM enters the game in sixth place after an up-and-down opening six games, scoring and allowing exactly 127 points. OrientalBio, meanwhile, is still searching for its first victory after being outscored 183-61.
Kickoff is set for 11:00 local time.
IBM passing game holds the edge
The Big Blue have leaned heavily on the pass, which has produced 206.2 yards per game and accounted for 72% of their total yardage.
Reece Horn has been the biggest weapon, leading the entire X League with 640 receiving yards. Quarterback Yuki Masamoto has thrown for 620 yards, while IBM’s offense is averaging 21.2 points per game.
The Big Blue also lead the league with 14 takeaways and own a plus-seven turnover differential, a significant advantage against an OrientalBio team sitting at minus-four.
Silver Star need to find some balance
The Silver Star have been even more dependent on their passing attack, with 83% of their yardage coming through the air.
Conor Regan has thrown for 691 yards, while Kasey Hawthorne ranks fourth in the league with 481 receiving yards. The problem has been turning that production into points, with OrientalBio averaging just 10.2 per game.
The ground game has offered little relief, producing only 34.3 yards per game.
Turnovers could decide it
IBM’s ability to take the ball away could be the defining matchup. Kaito Fujita has three interceptions, while AJ Wentland has recorded two sacks for the Big Blue defense.
OrientalBio needs sustained possessions and must protect Regan if it is to threaten an IBM team that has won the last three meetings between the clubs.
For the Big Blue, avoiding mistakes and getting the ball to Horn should provide the clearest route to a fourth victory.
