Linebacker Edvin Jönsson returns to Örebro Black Knights for 2026 Swedish Superserien season

The Örebro Black Knights’ defense just received a major boost with the return of standout linebacker Edvin Jönsson for the 2026 Swedish Superserien campaign. After a stint with the Nordic Storm in the ELF in 2025, Jönsson is back in black, ready to resume his role as one of the league’s most disruptive defensive players.

A decorated and versatile defensive leader
Jönsson is no stranger to Örebro or to success. During the 2025 season with the Black Knights, he was the third leading tackler in the entire Superserien, recording 53 total tackles—including 13.5 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks. In his six seasons with the team, he has now notched an impressive 159.5 tackles. His impact wasn’t limited to defense; Jönsson also showed off his special teams versatility by booting three field goals and 35 PATs in 2025.

Bringing experience and intensity
Known for his explosive playing style, high football IQ, and relentless effort, Jönsson has long been a tone-setter for the Black Knights on both defense and special teams. His return adds not only proven production but also veteran leadership and a winning mentality to the squad.

Head coach Branko Mutic has hailed Jönsson as “the best linebacker in Sweden,” emphasizing his ability to compete—and excel—at the highest level of the game. With Jönsson back in the fold, Örebro reinforces its identity as a defensive-minded team and signals its intent to compete at the top of the Superserien once again.
