The American Football League Europe schedule delivers an intriguing Week 4 matchup as Rhein Fire (1-1) welcomes the Paris Lights (1-1) to Schauinsland-Reisen-Arena in Düsseldorf. Both teams enter the weekend looking to bounce back from losses and avoid falling below .500 in what is shaping up to be a competitive AFLE season.
Home-field advantage
For Rhein Fire, Saturday represents an opportunity to respond after a tough road loss to the Vienna Vikings. Playing back in Düsseldorf should provide a boost for a team that remains one of the most experienced organizations in the league.
Quarterback Kenji Bahar has thrown for 417 yards through two games and will once again be asked to lead the offense. The running game has also been productive, helping Rhein Fire pile up 280 rushing yards and three touchdowns so far this season.
While the offense has shown flashes, consistency will be important against a Paris defense that has proven capable of creating pressure and forcing mistakes.

Dangerous playmakers
One player Paris must account for on every snap is Harlan Kwofie. The receiver is coming off an outstanding performance against Vienna, recording eight catches for 138 yards.
The Paris Lights counter with a productive offense of their own. Quarterback Evan Hillock has thrown for 335 yards and five touchdowns through his first two games and has helped keep the expansion club competitive from the start.
With both quarterbacks posting similar numbers, explosive plays could become the deciding factor.
Defense could decide it
The matchup may ultimately come down to which defense makes more game-changing plays.
Defensive tackle Wilfried Pene has emerged as one of the leaders of the Paris defense, which has already recorded six sacks, two interceptions and two forced fumbles. Generating pressure on Bahar will be a major priority.
Meanwhile, the Rhein Fire defense has produced three interceptions, three sacks and a forced fumble. The unit has shown an ability to make timely plays and will look to make life difficult for Hillock during the Lights’ first road test.
Momentum on the line
With both clubs sitting at 1-1, the stakes are significant despite it being only Week 4. Rhein Fire wants to defend its home field and regain momentum, while the Paris Lights are searching for a statement victory away from home.
On paper, the teams appear evenly matched. The side that protects the football, wins the turnover battle and takes advantage of scoring opportunities could leave Düsseldorf with a valuable victory and renewed confidence heading into the heart of the AFLE season.
