TORONTO ARGONAUTS
1. HEALTH OF CHAD KELLY
Quarterback Chad Kelly returns after missing the Argos’ last game with a hand injury. It’s on offensive linemen Ryan Hunter, Peter Nicastro and Dakoda Shepley to protect him from unnecessary contact so he can get through his progressions and stay off the turf as the playoffs loom.
2. MIGHTY KEVIN MITAL
Receiver Kevin Mital posted his best performance of the season in Week 3 in Ottawa when he pulled down eight catches for 178 yards. If he can replicate those numbers, he’ll not only help his team in their quest for a win, but will become the fourth Argos wideout to reach 1,000 yards this season, as he currently sits with 871.
3. STEP UP IN THE SECONDARY
Toronto ranks seventh in pass knockdowns with 49 and interceptions with 13, both numbers they would like to improve heading into the playoffs. The focus for defensive backs Bubba Bolden, Benjie Franklin and James Ceasar this week will be shutting down REDBLACKS receivers Ayden Eberhardt and Kalil Pimpleton.
OTTAWA REDBLACKS
1. BRYSON BARNES GETS HIS CHANCE
Ottawa will turn to rookie Bryson Barnes to make his first Canadian Football League start in hopes of providing a spark. In limited action this season, Barnes has completed 10 of 13 passes for 110 yards.
2. BALL SECURITY
The REDBLACKS fumbled three times, losing two of them, against the Lions. Whether the ball is in the hands of Barnes, running back Daniel Adeboboye or a receiver, it’s critical to protect the ball and avoid giving the Argos offence additional opportunities.
3. FIND A WAY TO KELLY
As his own team tries to protect him, the REDBLACKS should be doing everything they can to put pressure on the Argos’ pivot. Kelly is the key to Toronto’s offensive success, and if defensive lineman Jelani Stafford and linebacker Nyles Morgan can help lead the way through the line of scrimmage, it will make his life much more difficult.
