LIVESTREAM Germany: Allgäu Comets @ Straubing Spiders, August 13, 15:00 CET, (3 pm, 9:00 am ET)

With only three games left in the German Football League, the Straubing Spiders (6-1) and Allgäu Comets (4-3) square off in a crucial matchup for both teams.

Both have the postseason in September on their mind and want to make sure any possible clinching scenario happens as soon as possible.

For the Spiders, a victory would be meaningful for their whole franchise as in their first season in the GFL, they would officially be playoff bound. It would be extremely beneficial if they get the victory as it will increase odds of them hosting a game in the quarterfinals.

As for the Comets, a win is a necessity if they want to maintain fourth place in the South. They are one win ahead of the Saarland Hurricanes and need to do everything in their power to extend their lead.

Allgäu has the fourth ranked offense in the GFL having scored 277 points, right behind the Spiders who are third with 306 points scored in seven games. The Comets’ passing game is the key led by former Bismark Bucks of the Indoor Football League quarterback Kenyatte Allen Jr. He has been having a great season for the club, leading the way with2,128 yards passing and 28 touchdowns, a 68.3 completion percentage, 304.1 yards per game and a 197.7 pass efficiency. His main weapon, wide receiver Derrick Harvey, has been effective with the ball himself; with 13 touchdowns, 900 yards for the season, 5.7 receptions per game, 22.5 yards per catch and 128.6 yards per game to show for it.

The Comets’ defense has also been playing well. Linebacker Mario Wokocha has been a force with 21 total tackles for loss and 12 total sacks, both leading the league. His teammate, defensive lineman Johannes Wagner is just behind him as second for total sacks, with nine.

The Spiders on the other hand have been one of the stories of the season. Running back Lamar Carswell has made himself a genuine MVP contender with his 1,211 and 17 touchdowns on the season that has helping Straubing become the third highest scoring team in the league. Like the Comets, Straubing’s defense has been getting attention from opponent’s offensive lines too, with 77 tackles for the season and 12.8 per game.

The Comets last week obliterated the South’s cellar dweller, Frankfurt Universe, 62-10. However, this matchup will be a different task as the Spiders are among the league’s best.
