The rejuvenated Parma Panthers (4-2) head to Rome, Italy Sunday May 5 to face the 4-2 Lazio Ducks in Italy’s Div. 1.

Parma has won their last three games after opening the season with a record of 1-2. Since knocking off the Milano Seamen 22-19, the Panthers have rolled over the Bergamo Lions 40-7 and the lowly Bologna Warriors 35-15, and now sit third in the standings. After opening the season with a solid 14-10 over Ancona, the Panthers suffered two straight losses after starting quarterback Reilly Hennessey was hurt. They dropped a 27-17 decision to the Firenze Guelfi and then lost to the Bolzano Giants 20-6. The last time Parma opened the season 1-2 was 2008 and in that year, they reeled off seven straight victories after that to reach the semifinals with an 8-2 record.

Are they on the road to match that?

Hennessey has returned and threw for 191 yards and four touchdowns in the win over Bologna.

Lazio suffered a huge setback in losing badly, 51-0 to the Milano Seamen two weeks ago. The Ducks had bounced back from a disappointing 36-22 loss to the Firenze Guelfi, beating the Bergamo Lions 34-21 and Torinao Giaguari 28-20. The team won their two opening games easily beating the Ancona Dolphins 41-12 doubling up on the Bologna Warriors in the season’s opening game, 40-20.

In Lazio’s six games quarterback Tyler Johnson has completed 101 of 156 passes for 1,101 yards and 13 touchdowns and thrown only one interception, third among all quarterbacks. He has also rushed for 345 yards and six touchdowns to lead the Ducks. Running back Mike Gentili has rushed for 301 yards and scored two touchdowns. Leading receivers for the Ducks have been Tommaso Pozzebon who has had 17 catches for 240 yards and three touchdowns and Gentili with 15 catches for 142 yards and two touchdowns. Lorenzo Melchiorre has been spectacular at times with 185 yards receiving and five touchdowns, three in the win over the Dolphins. He has also snagged three interceptions, one for a touchdown.
