Munich Cowboys rally past Regensburg Phoenix in German Football League road win
In German Football League action, the Munich Cowboys improved to 2-1 with a 35-24 road win over the Regensburg Phoenix, who fell to 2-1 after a wild, weather-delayed game at the stadium on Weinweg.
Storm delay interrupts early rhythm
The game barely had time to settle before the weather became a factor. Regensburg opened on offense but had to punt away its first possession, and before Munich could build any rhythm, dark clouds moved in and the officials stopped the game because of a thunderstorm.
The delay lasted 35 minutes, with both teams heading back to the locker room. Once play resumed, the Cowboys found their footing first. A deep pass of about 40 yards set up the opening touchdown, giving Munich a 7-0 lead after the extra point.
Phoenix battle back before halftime
Regensburg answered in the second quarter after Mika Stieger intercepted a pass and gave the Phoenix good field position. The drive stalled short of the end zone, but Dominik Laßmann hit a 25-yard field goal to cut the deficit to 7-3.
The Cowboys quickly pushed the lead back out when Nick Semptimphelter found Jeremias Delgado for a touchdown and a 14-3 advantage. But Regensburg stayed in it. Late in the half, quarterback Cameron Yowell kept the ball himself and ran nine yards for a touchdown. Laßmann added the extra point, sending the Phoenix into halftime trailing 14-10.
Regensburg makes club history
The third quarter brought a huge moment for Regensburg. Facing fourth-and-15 from the Munich 31-yard line, Yowell stayed composed and connected with Jadon Gildersleeve in the end zone. The extra point missed, but the Phoenix had a 16-14 lead — their first lead in German Football League play.
Munich answered right back, with Semptimphelter and Gabe Boccella combining for a touchdown to make it 21-16. But Regensburg responded again. Alexander Klug finished a strong drive with a short touchdown run, and Yowell hit Gildersleeve on the two-point conversion to put the Phoenix ahead 24-21 entering the fourth quarter.
Cowboys finish strong
The fourth quarter belonged to the Cowboys. Semptimphelter kept attacking through the air, and Boccella became the difference-maker. The pair connected on two more touchdown passes, including scoring plays of 49 and 44 yards, as Munich turned a late deficit into a 35-24 lead.
Regensburg kept pushing but could not add another score, and the Cowboys closed out the game from there. For Munich, it was a strong road response. For Regensburg, the loss stung, but the first German Football League lead in club history gave the Phoenix a real milestone to take forward.
