Norway: Oslo Vikings win battle of Oslo!

The Oslo Vikings improved to 2-0 in Norway’s top division last week as they blanked the Vålerenga Trolls 31-0 at Frogner Stadium in Oslo.

It was a wet rainy night from start to finish. The weather conditions proved to be a factor on the scoring early with a 0-0 score at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter the Vikings were the first club to get on the scoreboard. A long pass down the sideline from quarterback Robert Mehmet to wide receiver Bror Jahre set up the Vikings in great scoring position. The drive was later capped off by a 10 yard screen pass to running back Vegard Tysse.

With the Vikings up 7-0 it was the Vikings defense’s turn to get in on the action. Defensive coordinator Nicolay Knutsen dialed up some pressure off the edge and safety Nicholas Isaksen got a forced fumble sack which was recovered by defensive end Petter Frausing on the Trolls one yard line. On the very next play, Vikings running back Jesper Jorgensen punched into the endzone from one yard out making the score 14-0. That was the score going into halftime.

In the second half the Vikings continued to put up points. Wide receiver Eric Ford was the next Viking to reach the endzone on a 45 yard touchdown pass from Mehemet. The Vikings D continued to play a wonderful shutout performance giving the Vikings offense plenty of chances to put the opposing team away. The next scoring play was a 35 yard field goal from kicker Vegard Tysse making the score 24-0 for the away team. The final scoring play of the match was a receiving touchdown by wide receiver Andreas Berglihn on a pretty 10 yard slant pattern. That made the final score 31-0 for the Vikings.

A notable performance on the Vikings D was cornerback Eivind Rolles. He was on corner duty vs the Trolls top wideout all day long and completely shut him down. He made an amazing diving interception to help seal the win. The other Vikings interception on the day was from safety Sergio Vizzuett with a nice toe-tapping sideline catch.

Next up for the Vikings is  the 1-0 Eidsvoll 1814s Saturday May 27th  at 15:00 @Frogner Stadium.
