Panthers survive thriller against Dolphins in Italian Football League classic
The Parma Panthers (3-0) remained unbeaten with a dramatic 29-27 victory over the Ancona Dolphins (0-2) in a back-and-forth Italian Football League showdown that wasn’t decided until the final seconds at Mandela Field.
Back-and-forth battle
Both teams traded blows throughout the contest, with Parma striking first on a touchdown reception by Matteo Ghelfi. Ancona answered in the second quarter when quarterback Carter Cravens connected with Cameren Grodhaus on a 41-yard touchdown pass, sending the game into halftime tied 7-7. The Dolphins briefly took control in the second half with another Cravens touchdown pass, this time to Emanuele Gianfelici, but the Panthers immediately responded.
Fourth quarter fireworks
The final period featured four lead changes as both offenses found rhythm. Parma quarterback Roman Fuller repeatedly targeted Ghelfi, who delivered multiple critical receptions including another touchdown. Running back Jaylin Parnell added a crucial rushing touchdown, while Ancona stayed alive through Grodhaus‘s receiving and Matteo Dazzani‘s clutch kicking. The Panthers successfully converted two two-point conversions that ultimately proved decisive.
Heartbreak for Ancona
The Dolphins had two chances to win in the final minutes. First, Cravens threw his second goal-line interception of the game, then with nine seconds remaining, a potential game-winning field goal attempt was blocked by Parma‘s desperate defensive push. The dramatic finish preserved Parma‘s perfect record while leaving Ancona with yet another close loss, though the Dolphins demonstrated they can compete with the league’s best despite their 0-2 record.
