PREVIEW: Porto Mutts v. Crusaders in LPFA Semifinal

The Porto Mutts will host the Carcavelo/Cascais Crusaders this Saturday, May 23rd, at 3 PM (9 AM EDT), at Canidelo Field in Vila Nova de Gaia, in the semifinals of the Liga Portuguesa de Futebol Americano (LPFA).

The winner is guaranteed a place in the Portuguese championship game –  LPFA VI – which will be played on June 6.

The other semi-final will feature the Lisboa Navigators, the defending champions, and the Lisboa Devils, who have qualified for the semi-finals for the first time in their history. The Navigators averaged 56 points a game this season.

In the regular season, the Mutts took first place in the Group Norte with an 8-0 campaign. In the playoffs, the team easily defeated the Algarve Sharks 102-0, the second most lopsided score in the history of the Portuguese League. The Porto team is the only team from the North Group to reach the semifinals.

Carcavelo/Cascais Crusaders finished second in Group Sul campaign with 6-2, behind only the Lisboa Navigators. In the playoffs, the Crusaders won with ease the Paredes Lumberjacks by 54-6 in Lisbon. The Crusaders feel confident. Running back Juzz Tiny has had an outstanding season and is a difference maker for the team.
