Sweden: Stockholm Mean Machines re-sign QB Mark Pappas

Defending Swedish champions, the Stockholm Mean Machines, have re-signed quarterback Mark Pappas for the 2023 season.

Pappas had an outstanding season in 2022 throwing for 3,292 yards and 48 touchdowns against only one interception while leading Stockholm to their third Swedish crown in five years, and 13th overall, defeating the Örebro Black Knights in the title game 52-8. With Pappas behind center, Stockholm also captured the Scandinavian Cup title defeating the Tyresö Royal Crowns in the final, 44-21.

The 6’2″, 213-pound native of Avon Lake, (Cleveland) Ohio finished a superb four-year career with the Morehead State Eagles throwing for 7,346 yards and 61 touchdowns in 31 games, averaging 237 yards a game. In his senior year, he completed 279 of 489 passes for 3,446 yards and 28 touchdowns. He threw for a school record 481 yards and six touchdowns that year in a 45-38 win over Dayton and led Morehead State to a 7-4 record, the most overall wins by the school since 2015, and 6-2 in the Pioneer League. For that he was named First Team All-Conference for the second straight year.

Mean Machines head coach Fredrik Pilbäck:

“We are thrilled to have Mark back for another season. He is a great player but an even better person. He is a true team player and a great leader on and off the field. His knowledge helps our young players to grow and Mark is eager to help.”
