Sweden: Carlstad Crusaders defeat Stockholm Mean Machines to stay unbeaten
The Carlstad Crusaders continued their perfect season with a commanding 54-31 road victory over the Stockholm Mean Machines at Östermalms IP. With this win, Carlstad improved to 5-0, while Stockholm fell to 3-2, struggling to contain the Crusaders‘ explosive offense.
Fast start for Carlstad
The Crusaders set the tone early, with De’Anta Sipp scoring on a 71-yard touchdown run on the very first play of the game. Just moments later, Sipp struck again, catching a short pass and sprinting 65 yards for another touchdown. Despite a 30-yard field goal from Stockholm, Carlstad led 12-3 within the first six minutes.
The Carlstad offense continued to click in the second quarter and with six minutes left in the half, Lukas Kullstrand hauled in a 30 yard touchdown pass from quarterback Jackson Erdmann to boost the lead to 19-3.
The Mean Machines struggled to find their footing early but began to respond. Quarterback Dawson Herl connected with William Bargot for a 26-yard touchdown, narrowing the gap to 19-11 with four minutes left in the half. Carlstad answered though, with Sipp scoring his third touchdown of the day from the 9-yard line, extending the lead to 26-11 just before the break. But with just 30 seconds remaining, Stockholm running back David Ottander caught a 12 yard touchdown pass from Herl reducing Carlstad’s lead to 26-17.
Stockholm battles back
After halftime, Carlstad continued to roll with Sipp finding a seam and racing 17 yards to the end zone to extend the lead to 34-17. The Mean Machines showed their resilience as Herl responded scoring from six yards out to bring the score to 34-24. The Crusaders wasted no time responding with a touchdown from Jonathan Gustafsson after a short pass from Erdmann, pushing the lead to 41-24. Still, Stockholm wasn’t done yet; Herl found Anton Blomgren for a spectacular 54-yard touchdown, cutting the deficit to 41-31 early in the fourth quarter.
Crusaders seal the victory
Despite the Mean Machines‘ efforts, Carlstad’s offense proved too powerful. The Crusaders scored two more touchdowns, including a 32-yard touchdown catch by Kullstrand, sealing the game at 54-31.
De’Anta Sipp was the standout performer for Carlstad, rushing for 204 yards and scoring four touchdowns. Quarterback Jackson Erdmann threw for 308 yards and five touchdowns, showcasing the depth of the Crusaders‘ offensive talent. For Stockholm, Dawson Herl had a strong game, throwing for 441 yards and three touchdowns, with Anton Blomgren catching six passes for 166 yards and a touchdown.
With this victory, the Carlstad Crusaders solidified their position as a top contender in the league, while the Stockholm Mean Machines will need to regroup and address their defensive struggles if they hope to compete in the playoffs.
